Liberty Needs Your Help
I am asking for your support in my race for Congress in the First Congressional District of New York next year, I need more than your vote, I need your support. I recognize that many of us have become disenchanted with the political process, and with good reason. It seems like no matter who we elect, government just grows and grows and keeps on making things worse. More taxes, less liberty, all imposed on you by people who lie through smiling faces. That is why I am running. I don't even really want to do this, I'm a pretty reluctant candidate. But some people had encouraged me to do it, and after I met the other people who were planning to run, I realized it was going to be more of the same, and I figured someone has to do something, and if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.
I'm not a politician. I'm not rich, far from it. I'm not a lawyer, or an executive at a big company. I'm not friends with a bunch of lawyers, or wealthy corporate execs, or union leaders, or anyone with any real power for that matter. I don't have a flashy car, or a big house, or really much of anything to show off or brag about. I'm just a guy who is fed up with the system. I've been working since my teenage years in fields ranging from mowing lawns to managing a datacenter, and it seems like no matter how hard any of us work it's almost impossible to get ahead.
But I still know that the answer isn't for the government to help me. I've never collected welfare, or unemployment, or anything like that, no offense to those who have, if you ever did work, you probably paid into that system. Sure I attended a public school like many of you, but I realized pretty early on that they weren't teaching me what I needed to know to survive in this world. I taught myself most of the things I use to get by today by reading, and searching the web, and observing the world around me. I think I've done a pretty good of teaching myself too, when I attended a computer technicians class at BOCES, I kept on correcting my teacher, which he found a bit annoying, but respected nonetheless.
I think the only real answer is to get the government off of our backs. I'm running on a platform of Constitutional government, and some have called me "A Liberty Candidate". I think it's pretty bad that someone can even make a platform out of that. Why should anyone have to make the Constitution an issue? It is the supreme law of the land after all. Worse than that, when I talk to people about it, most people think that it doesn't really matter. "The Constitution is over 200 years old" or "The Constitution is a living breathing document" or "The government couldn't operate within those limits" are the things people say and it really gets me concerned, because the whole point of writing the Constitution the way it was written, was so that we would understand it. Most people don't even know what it says and most of the people who do just think trying to enforce it is a waste of effort.
But I see things differently, it isn't that hard. We just need to elect people who believe in the Constitution, and justice, and liberty. People who mean it and tell the truth. And while it isn't easy to win elections, I'm pretty sure you just need to get more votes than the other guy still. Maybe it's a little naive to assume the electorate wants constitutional government and freedom, but I still think we have to try. You always miss 100% of the shots you don't take, ya know?
So let's give this a try. If you want freedom, and constitutional government, and drastically lower taxes, help me get elected. We're going to have to work really hard, but if you are anything like me, hard work is no stranger to you. Let's raise money, and more importantly awareness. Lets talk to people, and get the word out over the internet, lets knock on doors, and shake hands, and give out pocket constitutions and recruit others into our cause.
I really think Liberty is within our reach, all we have to do is reach for it. Will you reach for it?
